The Practice

Manhattan Integrative Gastroenterology is a full service digestive disease health and wellness practice. We provide complete digestive care with standard, functional, nutritional, and holistic evaluations in order to get to the core of the problem. Conventional medicine has excelled in advanced diagnostic technology treating acute medical problems and emergencies. Chronic illness has not been adequately addressed with conventional methods. Functional and integrative medicine has been able to tackle chronic conditions in a holistic and safe way. It is therefore, imperative that all modalities are available.

Similar symptoms do not mean the root cause is the same. Each patient is unique with a distinct profile and we customize each treatment to each patient’s unique and special needs.

The digestive system is the entry point for disease and for health and is an integral barrier to maintain health in all systems. A healthy digestive system is vital to avoid and treat autoimmune conditions, hormonal imbalances, maintain a healthy immune system, and a healthy metabolic profile.

The practice is located in the heart of downtown Manhattan in the Flatiron district. It is the only Integrative Gastroenterology practice in the Metro area.

Dr. Shustina

Dr.Shustina

Dr. Shustina knew she wanted to be a doctor at the age of three. She completed her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine where she learned all the best western medicine has to offer. She also studied Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, a holistic approach emphasizing the connection between structure of the body and its function and dysfunction. She completed her Internal Medicine residency in St. Vincent’s hospital, a historic hospital in downtown Manhattan.

During her residency and fellowship training, she felt frustrated that she was not able to help her patients with chronic illnesses with the standard methodology she was taught. She felt there needed to be other ways to help her patients. During that time, she suffered from her own illness. Her baseline allergies became very severe and debilitating. She was taking the maximum dose of medications with no improvement. Her allergy symptoms were worsened by stress and she started to learn about intestinal permeability or “leaky gut.” Her “leaky gut” was worsened by work stress and an unhealthy diet. She was able to use what she learned in her osteopathic studies, along with dietary changes and strategic stress management tools to heal her gut and cure her allergies naturally.

She is passionate about bringing the tools which helped her to her patients. In addition to seeing health oriented patients in her practice she is passionate about teaching young doctors the art and science of real medicine in the hospital.
